Sweeping Views & Soul-Warming Sips @ our Cellar Door

Whether you’re here for the Pinot, the pale ale, or the laid-back atmosphere, we’re your hilltop hideaway in Central Otago.

Set on a sun-soaked hill above the orchards and vines of Cromwell, The Brae is a space where locals linger and visitors discover something unexpected. We’re proudly relaxed — serving award-winning Central Otago wines, local craft beers, alternative options for non-drinkers, and good conversation in spades.

Whether you’re a regular, or just passing through and looking for that off-the-beaten-track spot with a view, we’re glad you found us.

Opening Hours

Temporary Closure — Exciting Upgrades Underway!

We’re making some big improvements here at The Brae, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

We will be closed from Monday to Thursday this week, and on Friday we’ll be opening at 3pm to give our team and builders the time they need to extend our pergola.

Once the work is complete, we’ll have over double the covered space — meaning more room to relax, more shelter from the weather, and far more flexibility for hosting events and private functions all year round.

Thank you for your patience while the upgrades are underway. We’re so excited to show you what’s in the works and welcome you back to an even better Brae experience.

Tastings & Taps

We’re all about celebrating the best of what Central Otago (and beyond) has to offer — in your glass. You’ll find a selection of local wines, including favourites from Mount Michael, Valli, Thyme Hill, and Scott Base — plus other hand-picked drops from across the region and around New Zealand.

On tap, we’re pouring a line-up of seriously good craft beers from local legends like Altitude Brewing, Station Brewing, and Rhyme x Reason.

Not sure where to start? Try one of our tasting flights — a fun and easy way to explore the flavours of Central Otago, one sip at a time. We’ve also got a selection of non-alcoholic drinks for those keeping it dry — no one misses out at the table.

Casual Bites

Our all-day menu is made for grazing — whether you’re here for a light lunch, a mid-arvo snack, or something to pair with your tasting flight.

Think generous charcuterie boards, our famous baked camembert (the gooey kind dreams are made of), and a selection of easy, tasty bites to share.

It’s relaxed, unfussy, and designed to go down well with whatever’s in your glass.

Make a Booking

We welcome walk ins but definitely recommend booking ahead if you're planning a visit with a group of 6 or more. Whether you're popping in for a casual bite or joining us for a tasting, we'll always do our best to set aside a space for you to enjoy.
